Warning a non crafting post. It has been a long few days here in my town. I hope to get to crafting soon.
These are the words I wrote Sunday, After a F3 tornado came to town and turned many lives up side down. I still had no power or phone. My lap top happened to be charged so I took the time to write some. I have never in the forty plus years I have been alive seen such devastation. It is such an odd thing to drive out of your subdivision and go two blocks and where there was a subdivision it is no more. There are just pieces of homes, trees and what not. So this is my story. I am lucky the tornado did not hit my home and I am fine. Losing power and phone no big deal. I pray for those that lost it all.
Here is my Saturday:
About twenty four hours ago the City of Sanford changed for ever. A large tornado came through the city starting in Lemon Springs and moving quickly across until it finally stopped well beyond Sanford. It destroyed homes and large businesses. For the first time in my life I was not sure what would happen and what the out come would be. I sat in the bathtub for about 15min and when I did go out I had no power or phones. I at that point had no idea a tornado touched down less than a mile from my home. My neighborhood thankfully was untouched. Others were not so lucky, St Andrews Church area was leveled. As well as Lowes Home store and the Food Lion strip. The pictures I saw in the paper today were amazing. To get to church this morning I had to drive way out of the way. I passed areas that were completely leveled and then the next house had one window blown out. I passed the area where I believe it started. The house I saw was missing part of its roof and there were two tractor trailers laying on their sides as if some just tipped them over(above picture). Then when you looked left the path was noted by trees that looked as though someone just snapped them in the middle. As I sit here now I still have no power and have not seen the larger areas that were struck. My prayers go out to those that lost everything.
Thanks for stopping by.
Jessie
Wow Jessie! I am so glad you are fine and I am so sorry for all your neighbors and your town. I grew up in southern Minnesota and have been through a few tornados as a child, but none so devastating. My little sister lives in St Paul and lost the whole back side of her house a few years ago from a tornado. Luckily, she and her daughter made to the basement and were safe. Thanks for the non-crafting update!
ReplyDeleteJessie I am so sorry to read that.. my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone effected by the tornado.. glad your safe.. ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness gracious. How blessed you are to be safe and unharmed and how absolutely devastating for your town. I am so sorry to hear that you have had such destruction in your town; it really does make one feel small.

Oh Jessie, I'm so sorry ! I can't imagine how scared and yet thankful you must be. To see such loss and devastation must me difficult . I'm so glad your ok. I will add you to the ongoing prayer list. On our news they show a lowes that was hit but no one hurt, wonder if it's the same one. Thank you for sharing, sometimes it just helps to know others care, and we do. God Bless and take care.
ReplyDeleteHow frightening! I'm so glad you were out of harms way, and will pray that your community can recover quickly!
ReplyDeleteJessie I am so glad to hear you and your family are okay. I DH called his brother who lives in Sanford to see if they were okay..they live less then 10 miles from the Lowes that got hit but they were fine. We have so many family members that live in NC and am glad they are all fine. You are in our prayers.
ReplyDeleteJessie I am very sorry to hear of your bad weather, but I am glad you and your family are ok. You and your community are in my prayers. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteJessie I am so glad you are fine and my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone effected by the tornado.
ReplyDeleteJessie, I didn't realize that you live in NC or I would have left a message when I heard about the tornado. I live in New Jersey and, gratefully, tornadoes drop down on only the rarest of occasions. The last I recall in my area was back when I was in high school in the mid 70s. Almost 40 years later, you can still see the path the tornado took, and it was down the center of a street. I cannot imagine the destruction you described. My prayers went out to people when I heard about this on the news, but now I need to add a prayer of gratitude that you were unharmed.
